Vijaya Stupa

ABR 015

Gilt Copper
Height: 29 cm

Key landmark of Buddhism, the stupa is a reliquary. In Tibet, stupas are usually built in groups of eight, each stupa being related to one of the eight important events in the life of Buddha Sakyamuni, and to the eight locations where these took place. Accordingly, there are eight specific shapes of stupas. This stupa is known as a Vijayastupa, commemorating the gift of honey made to Buddha Sakyamuni by a monkey.
